Oakland teachers are striking for the schools Oakland students deserve.
They are demanding:
Smaller class sizes, so that every student can get the supports and attention they need to thrive
More nurses, counselors and school psychologists to help our children learn and grow
Living wages for educators, to keep experienced teachers in Oakland and end the teacher retention crisis that led to nearly 600 teachers leaving last year
An end to school closures, that are disproportionately impacting Black and Brown communities
Boots Riley of The Coup joined students, teachers and community activists at the #OUSDStrike in East Oakland. There, he cheered on protesters, reminding them that they’re setting an example for students and teachers across the country and world. bit.ly/BootsOUSDStrike
